Few names carry the weight in home inspection that Scott Newcomer's does. Over nearly four decades he has done the work at every level — inspecting homes, building and scaling companies, writing the curriculum the industry trains on, shaping state policy, and testifying as an expert when disputes reach the courtroom.
Scott opened his first company, Newcomer’s Home Inspection Service, in 1989 and learned the trade the way that lasts — one home at a time. Within a few years it had grown into one of the largest inspection firms in North America, with fourteen inspectors on staff and more than 25,000 inspections to its name. In 1995 he launched Newcomer’s of America, a national home-inspection franchise named by Entrepreneur Magazine among the nation’s fastest-growing franchises. He also founded House to Home Inspections and DART Adjusters, a Florida public-adjusting firm advocating for policyholders after property loss.
In 1993, Scott co-founded the American Home Inspectors Training Institute (AHIT) in Waukesha, Wisconsin, and helped grow it into the largest home-inspection training company in North America before it was sold. He went on to found ATI Home Inspector Training and to create the ATI Certified Inspector credential — delivering pre-licensing and continuing education, in the classroom and online, to inspectors across the country. He was also an early pioneer of inspection software, building digital reporting tools long before they became standard.
Scott served the citizens of Wisconsin as a State Representative for Assembly District 33 (2006–2011). He was elected ranking member of the Financial Institutions Committee, chaired the Committee on Financial Institutions, and served as Vice Chairman of Education. He helped bring formal home-inspection standards to Wisconsin — testifying before the state Senate committee that passed them after a two-decade effort — and continues to champion government affairs and advocacy for inspectors nationwide.
Today, litigators, home-inspection company owners, and insurance carriers retain Scott as an expert witness in home-inspection disputes — for independent standard-of-care analysis, report review, and deposition and trial testimony. Through Newcomer’s Consulting Group, he also advises companies on building, scaling, and government relations across the inspection industry.
Scott and House to Home Inspections were named the Wisconsin Association of REALTORS® Affiliate of the Year in 2021. He holds a B.S. in Construction Management from the University of Wisconsin, has been a Wisconsin-licensed inspector since 1996, and his training programs are GI Bill & VR&E (Ch. 31) approved — reflecting a lasting commitment to opening the profession to America’s veterans.
